Just dance, Table Tennis & Juggling

In PE we have been doing some Table Tennis and Juggling but last week our teacher Mr Hilliard said we could do Just Dance if we wanted. A few others and I did Just Dance last week. Some of the dances we did were Rasputin, Vodovorot, Kill this Love, Whip Nae Nae, Juju on that Beat, Air Planes, We got the Power and Footloose. It was really fun getting to do Just Dance and I enjoyed it a lot.

Before we did Just dance we did Table Tennis and Juggling. For juggling we had to juggle 2 with one hand then 3 with both hands. For Table Tennis we had to vs someone and get 10 across then we could do it with the wall.

I reckon I have really good self confidence when it comes to dance because I dance outside of school and I have a big passion for it. When it comes to some other sports I am normally not that good at it but I get better.

Chromatography

Aim:
To separate the different pigments from using chromatography.

Method:
1. Draw a line across the paper in pencil, 5cm from the bottom.
2. Draw a coloured dot in the middle of the line.
3. Measure out 10mL of water and place in the test tube.
4. Place the filter paper in the test tube and fold over the side. Make sure the pencil line is not in the water.
5. Wait for 5 minuets and observe the results.

Equipment:
1. Felt tip pen
2. Filter paper strips
3. Test tubes
4. Measuring cylinder
5. Pencil

Results:
I choose green and it stretched out and half of it was blue and the other half was yellow. So my one showed 3 pigments.

For the second one we had to do a black dot. It had 5 pigments. Blue, Purple, Black, Orange and a little bit of Pink.

As I was watching the colours change it was changing because the water was making it change. The darker the colour is the more pigments it will have.

Creative writing!

The mountains look beautiful under the sky. All I see is the ocean in the distance. On the mountain there are trees, in the water there are boats coming back to shore. I was feeling the hot summer sun on my back as I tanned.

I'm Lydia and I live in a house with my best friend Allison. we have a cat called Carrot, we call her that because she is orange and we dyed her fur green for Christmas. We live really close to the shore and every night we go to sleep while listening to the waves crash. Last night we heard foot steps coming from the padeo and it sounded like someone was breaking in.

Allison and I were pretty frightened so we went down stairs to see what is happening, but before we reached the end off the stairs we see a tall man dressed in black trying to break in to our house. Allison runs up the stairs to call the police and I figure out a way to defend myself. Allison runs back and says the police are about 5 minutes away. As she was saying that the tall man dressed in black opens the door and invites himself into our house.

As he walked in our house the police show up. The tall man in black heard the sirens and tried to run out the door he came from, the police caught him and arrested him. They started questioning him and asked why he was trying to break in. He was not responding so the police took him to the station and we could happily go to sleep.

Have a good day! :)

Ella West visit

Yesterday we had a visit from Ella West, the author of 'Night Vision' and 'Rain Fall'. She was kind enough to come and visit us while she came up from Dunedin for some family related stuff. Ella is also a journalist, and she write magazines and she works for southland times farming magazines.
Ella West is actually her pen name, a pen name is basically a fake name but her real name is Karen Trebilcock.

Ella basically lives 2 lives because her family and journalist life is one then she has her author life which completely different even her name.

Ella got inspired to write 'Night Vision' from watching a documentary about XP (Xeroderma Pigmentosum) and it is a real life condition.

She based this story in Ashburton because at the time she was writing 'Night Vision' thats when we had the huge Earthquakes so that would take over the story from the murder so she had to base in in Ashburton.

Night Vision is actually re written in Italian and has a completely different cover and everything.
Steven King actually stole the Idea of putting money in a bag and giving it to someone from 'Night Vision'.

She got inspired to write 'Rain Fall' from the West Coast because it is 90% rain and 10% sun. There is a road on the West Coast and its called Utopia Rd and got inspired from it.

Did you know that Ella is writing a book currently and its called 'The sound of my heart' and its basically about someone that runs but never can come first in races and she can hear the sound of her own heart beat.

Its a bit unfair on Ella because she can never get in the top 10 of New Zealand book authors but she lives and writes then in NZ but they get published in Australia.

When Ella is writing a book she tries to aim for 1000 words a day and she writes about 50,000 words in every book.

The first books that she ever wrote were the thieves series, there are 3 of them as well.

When Ella writes her book's she doesn't actually need to write them when its completely quite she can write her books where ever no matter how noisy it is.

Fun fact Ella's First book wasn't actually published.

Drama Hurumanu

On Tuesday we had our drama hurumanu. We had a sheet of paper and we had right down 3 people that inspire us to be physically active. I wrote down 3 of my dance teachers because I love to dance. My dance teacher's Zoe and Denice they are dance teachers for my dance school. The types of dancing Zoe does is Jazz, Lucidity, Ballet and Musical theatre. Denice does Ballet, Jazz and Lucidity. For the hot seat we had to interview someone in our group and make up questions for them. They had to act like they were their favourite sporty person they they were inspired by. I worked in a group with Addyson and Shontelle. Shontelle got the chance to be interviewed and she had to pretend to be her favourite netballer Temalisi Fakahokotau. Here is our  interview.

This is the slide show. It has links on it about being physically active and how can you help your Physical well being.

I was really nervous doing the hot seating because I don't really perform in front of the class but in drama we do. I will eventually get used to it and it will be fine.

If I had a goal to set my goal will be to practise my dances for about 2 hours so I know all the steps and know how the dances go.
