Hello and Goodbye (Lock down edition)

We had to make a poem about our lock down. It is a hello and goodbye poem and we are saying goodbye to things in lock down and hello to things in level 2.

Hello and goodbye

Goodbye to long sleep-ins and relaxing with my family, Hello to early mornings and seeing my friends.

Goodbye to watching Sponge bob, hello to lots of learning.

Goodbye to online meetings, Hello too real life learning.

Goodbye to fighting with my family, Hello to keeping my distance.

Goodbye to the sun shining through my curtains at 1:00pm, Hello to the cold and dark mornings.

Goodbye to laying in bed all day. Hello to more exercising.

Goodbye to the long night video calls with my friends, hello to hanging out with my friends.

Goodbye to playing video/card games, hello to hanging at the park with my friends.

Dream Holiday!

Today we are blogging about where we want to go for our dream holiday. I really want to go Bora Bora because it is such a beautiful place. Bora Bora in a small South Pacific Island Northwest of Tahiti in French Polynesia. Bora Bora is surrounded by Sand Fringed motus and Turquoise lagoon protected by coral reef. Bora Bora is known for their scuba diving. It's also a popular luxury resort destination where some guest bungalows are perched over the water on stilts.

Otemanu is a mountain in Bora Bora. It is one of the two peaks of an extinct volcano located in the centre of the Island. One peak of the mountain is called Mount Otemanu and the other is call Mount Pahaia. This is the only Island that is a perfect score of a ten on the amazement scale by tourists.

Bloody Mary's is one of the Pier's in Bora Bora. It is also a Club Yacht, Restaurant and etc. It's not only a Restaurant though it can be toured by tourist. You can experience walking on sand floors, sitting on coconut stools under a thatched roof and you are surrounded by exotic plants.

CIP Tane Mahuta

Today in CIP we were picking out the weeds that were in the green house. There were a lot of stone tiles that we just grabbed and through out of the green house. We were weeding the green house so it would be clean and we could plant plants in there.
In period 2 the other group were putting horse manure into the end of the trench. It was the end of the trench that had no plants yet. They added horse manure because it is a type of compost for the plants.
The other part of the CIP group that was cleaning the green house were raking off all the dirt and stacking every brick the found. They were just making it look nice and clean and so it would be suitable to use as a classroom.
In period 2 I had Kapa Haka and we were learning the actions to the song we just learnt, Whakarongo. We kept going over the actions so we knew it.
This is the song Whakarongo.

Digital tech

Aim/WALT:
  • Research all 3 New Zealand Kaitiaki.
  • Planning to make our game and whats its going to be about.
  • Making our game.

These past weeks in digital tech we have been learning about our Kaitiaki in New Zealand and making a game, app or narrative. At the start of Digital tech we were learning about Tangaroa, Tane mahuta and Tawhirimatea.
We have been doing stuff around coding so we knew how to make our game, app or narrative.
It was really fun making my game and doing coding stuff on code.org and hour of code, I really enjoyed it because I learnt how to code. Heres a link to my game and my plan so you can play it.

Making our game we had an opportunity to use Gamefroot, Scratch and App Lab. I choose Gamefroot so I could make a game about Tane Mahuta.

Making our games was very confusing because when we started we didn't know how to use Gamefroot so we were new to it. During the process of making our game, coding and learning about the 3 Kaitiaki, I learnt a lot about it. At first when we started it didn't go so well but when we got more into it it got a lot better. I learnt how to put different types of scripts on photos I found so it could be a collectable, so you can pick up the rubbish that is in the forest.

There is a problem with pollution in forest and I am trying to teach people how to clean up after themselves and pick up heaps of rubbish so we can make the forest's a lot cleaner.

When I started making my game on Gamefroot I knew nothing about it because I haven't used it before. Now that I'm finished my game I know a lot more than I did when I started.

The aim of my game is to collect rubbish to save the trees in the forest. You can also collect hearts as if they were a collectable to save the trees and get rid of some pollution to help the wild life.

If your were to make a game would you make your game on Gamefroot, App lab or scratch or any other site you can think of?

Tane Mahuta

Today we went to the back of the school and picked some plums so we can make plum jam. After that we started to clean the compost area which is next to the plum tree. We raked the leaves and picked up rubbish "Garden waste" We are planning to build a vegetable garden and bring back some of the native birds. We actually saw some of them today when we were picking plums. Here is a photo of us cleaning the compost.

This is some of us planning what we are going to do with the space we have, thats how we came up with the native plants and vegetable garden.

SLJ

For cyber smart we had to pick a country that we want to go to. I picked Australia, I actually have been to Australia and I would love to go again.

We have some questions to answer about the country we want to go to.

The Capital of Australia is Canberra.

In 2011 the population of Canberra was 403,468 but now it has dropped to about 390,000
January is the hottest month in Canberra.

It has a average of temperature of 69°F (21°C) The coldest month is in July 42°F (6°C)

Canberra is located at the northern Australia capital.

Canberra people don't speak a different language they just speak English.

So me and my Family just got to Australia and we went to sleep then we woke up and wanted something to eat.

Normally in Australia they have Cereal, Toast or a Coffee, or is they want something hot they would have Bacon, Eggs, Sausages and Fried Tomato.

In stead of Waitangi day Australia has Australia day which is 26 of January.

Then we had to go back home to NZ.

Purple Cabbage

Today in science we are doing a purple cabbage experiment.
I was working with my friend Addyson
here is our document we had to fill out and it will tell you a little bit of information.

What colour do you think the white vinegar will turn the purple cabbage indicator? Light purple pink
color
Why do you think this? Because the vinegar is strong and it might get rid of some of the color.
Depends on how long the cabbage is in vinegar for.

What colour do you think the washing powder will turn the purple cabbage indicator? Dark blue

Why do you think this? Because it's not as strong as the vinegar so it might make it darker.
Method:

1 Peel off three or four big cabbage leaves and put them in a blender filled half full with water.
Blend the mixture on high until you have purple cabbage juice.

2 Pour the purplish cabbage liquid through a strainer to filter out all of the big chunks of cabbage.
Save the liquid for the experiments to follow.

3 Set out three beakers, side by side. Fill each glass three-quarters full with cabbage juice.

4 Add a little vinegar to the first beaker of cabbage juice. Stir with stirring rod and watch the colour
change.

5 In the second beaker, add a little laundry detergent and stir.

6 Take a photo of your 3 beakers side by side.

The one with vinegar turned light purple and the one with washing powder turned blue.
