Governments

In Hur5 we have been looking at different types of governments. I was in a group with Kody and Vin and this is our slide.

We had to research what countries had different types of governments. Then we had a map and we had to find each country that had either Democracy, Monarchy, Dictatorship Communism, Totalitarianism, Oligarchy or Anarchy.

Ki o Rahi - P.E Hurumanu

In P.E we have been learning a game called Ki o Rahi. We had to research the legend bout Ki o Rahi and this is my research.
When you’re playing Ki O Rahi there will be a set time to play in, it will be 4 quarters or 2 halves. Teams will switch roles of Kīoma and Taniwha at half time or in each quarter. Both teams score differently Kīoma scores by touching the Pou With the Kī then they run the Kī through to Te Roto and placing it down in Pāwero/Te Moto. This means they will get points after touching the pou. If the Kī goes out any team can pick it up. Teams can decide to change the rules before playing the game, normally they will just keep playing as if it was Tatu. The Taniwha team scores one point for hitting the tupu which is in the middle of the field. There a several circles which makes the Ki o Rahi field and they have specific names. The outer ring of a Ki o Rahi field is called Te Ao, the next ring in is called Te Roto, The next one is Pāwero/Te Motu. There is a little circle around the Tupu is called Te wairua.
This is what the field looks like:
The equipment you will need is Kī (ball) Pou (pole/post) Tupu (Barrel) bibs, cones to make the outlines, you can also use spray paint to make outlines.

The legend:
One day an enemy tribe from a far off mountains kidnapped Te Ara. Her Abductors casted a spell on her causing the vegetation to become really dense and impenetrable so nobody could track where she was. Rahi was very determined to find Ti Ara, with the help of his family and tribe he built a huge kite and called it Manu Tangata. Before going on his journey Rahi prepared several “Kī” (Flax Bags) he then filled it up with a large Moa (Extinct New Zealand Bird) eggs so he can eat something during his journey. Tawhirimatea the god of wind blew Rahi and his Kite high up in the sky, before he gently landed Rahi in the bush. When Ti Ara was being taken away through the forest she secretly folded back leaves of the silver fern. Which was exposing the silvery underside of the leaf so Rahi was able to follow the silvery trail that Ti Ara had left.

Fossil Fuels

Image result for oil rig
Image result for coal mining
Aim: To look at how fossil fuels are contributing to climate change and how we can prevent this.

Definition of Fossil Fuels:
You can find fossil fuels underground and in the ocean. The 3 departments of fossil fuels are things like oil, gas and coal. Fossil fuels can be solid's, liquid's and gases.

Scientific Terms for Students
  • coal: a dark-brown to black solid substance formed naturally from the compaction and hardening of fossilized plants and used as a fuel primarily for electricity generation
  • natural gas: a mixture of hydrocarbon gases that occurs naturally beneath the earth’s surface and is used as a fuel primarily for cooking and heating homes
  • renewable resource: a resource that is never used up (e.g., solar energy)
  • non-renewable resource: a resource that is not replaceable after its use (e.g., coal, gas)

Examples of Fossil Fuels:
  1.  Coal
  2.  Gas
  3.  Oil

Activity:

In groups of 3 you will learn about different fossil fuels and the way they are mined?
Each group will be given a fossil fuel. The recorder will read it to the group. The recorder will write down some of the important points.
Person 1: Recorder: to write down 5 points of interest from the text.
  1. 5 Points:
  2. Positives and negatives of your type of mining.
Person 2: Reporter: to read back to the class their 5 points of interest.
Person 3: Collector: Gathers the required stationary from the teacher.

Mining Fossil Fuels

What Fossil Fuels are mined?
How are they mined?

1. Drilling method can help extract liquid and or gases that can be forced to the surface.
2. Mining is used to extract solid fossil fuels such as coal by digging, scraping or other wise exposing buried resources.

Where are they mined?

1. You can find fossil fuels around the surface of the Earths crust.
2. Deep within the Earth through underground mining.

Activity;

On the sheet provided you need to make two drawings of your cookie.
1. looking down at it.
2. side on -  of the imaginary habitat that will live on the top of the cookie. ( trees, buses, flax, sea, etc)

Material:

  1.  Cookie
  2.  Plate
  3.  Pencil
  4.  Sheet of paper
  5. Tooth pick
Steps:
  1. Get materials.
  2. Draw your Cookie before hand.
  3. Draw your habitat.
  4. Answer the questions below.
  5. Mine your Cookie.
  6. Draw the after version of your Cookie.
  7. Draw the after version of your habitat.
  8. Answer the questions below.
  9. EAT THE COOKIE!
Once you have drawn your cookies you must take 2 pictures and upload them to your blog.

Findings: What did you find out as a result of your mining?
A lot of my cookie got destroyed and it was a mess.

Conclusion: Don't mine in the ground because it will be a big mistake.

Stop Motion journey

Today is presenting day for our Stop Motion. Luckily we actually finished, it was a very stressful time. Our stop motion was called Jack and the bully and it is about a boy named Jack and he gets bullied by these other to boys named Nick and Hurculeys. We had a few choices on what to make our stop motion on and the choices were, Clay, Lego and Whiteboard. My group did a mix of Clay and Lego and it actually turned out really well.

This is what our Stop Motion looks like.

Some of it might look a bit off but that is because it didn't have any text in it that's why there's background music.
I hope you like our movie have you have a good day!

Forensics - Fingerprints

Forensics

http://sciencing.com/list-forensics-techniques-6392795.html

1. What is the definition of forensic science?
the application of scientific methods and techniques to matters under investigation by a court of law.

2. Name 5 different kinds of activities used in forensic sciences and find a picture for each.
  • D.N.AImage result for d.n.a forensics
  • Fingerprint Image result for Fingerprint
  • FootprintImage result for Footprint
  • Ballistics Image result for Ballistics forensics
  • White powder test Image result for White powder test

3. Name 5 jobs that would use forensics to investigate crime
  • Police
  • F.B.I
  • medical examiner
  • investigators
  • laboratory analyst

Finger prints

Aim: To look at the different types of fingerprints.

Material:

  1.   Balloon
  2.   Magnifying glasses
  3.   Ink pad
  4.   Finger

Steps
  1. Get a balloon
  2. Ink your finger/thumb
  3.   Put your thumb on the balloon
  4.    wait for balloon to dry
  5.   then blow up the balloon
  6.   see if your a Loop, Whorl or Arch

Image result for fingerprint types

Record the types of fingerprints from those in your group.

Name
Fingerprint 1 ( Thumb)
Fingerprint 2 (finger)
HopeLoopLoop
AddysonWhorlLoop
Shontelle LoopLoop

Summary of findings: My friend Addyson had a whorl on her thumb but Shontelle and I had a Loop. We all had a Loop when we tried our finger.

Hidden fingerprints:

Aim: To learn how to lift hidden fingerprints from an object.
