Hello and Goodbye (Lock down edition)

We had to make a poem about our lock down. It is a hello and goodbye poem and we are saying goodbye to things in lock down and hello to things in level 2.

Hello and goodbye

Goodbye to long sleep-ins and relaxing with my family, Hello to early mornings and seeing my friends.

Goodbye to watching Sponge bob, hello to lots of learning.

Goodbye to online meetings, Hello too real life learning.

Goodbye to fighting with my family, Hello to keeping my distance.

Goodbye to the sun shining through my curtains at 1:00pm, Hello to the cold and dark mornings.

Goodbye to laying in bed all day. Hello to more exercising.

Goodbye to the long night video calls with my friends, hello to hanging out with my friends.

Goodbye to playing video/card games, hello to hanging at the park with my friends.

Brainstorm for textiles

In textiles we are working on some ideas to make something when we get back in the classroom.

These are Anneleise and I's ideas we could use and I'm thinking about either doing Pom Pom rug or  String pot holder.

Beeswax wraps

In textiles we had to create a poster about beeswax wraps. we had to write instructions on how to make it and we had other questions to answer.

Once we are back in the classroom we are going to make these beeswax wraps but we are using the Iron method.

What i've been doing to keep fit

During lock down I have been trying to keep fit and do some exercises. I've been doing lots of dancing because I love to dance, I've also been doing Les Mills Born to Move that's on Tv channel 2 at 3pm every weekday. My brother has also been making me do 10 laps of the house and my mum gave my a quick workout to do. It was something like 10 laps of the backyard, 10 push ups, 10 sit ups and 10 star jumps. It was just something to do so I could keep up my fitness.

Where the black death fits in history

In Social Studies we started learning about the black death. The black death was a pandemic that happened in 1347. The black death was a disease and in 1347 it came to Europe and killed millions of people. In European history 500 - 1500 is called the middle ages. At this time it was ancient history of the Greeks and the Romans.

We had to create a timeline of history and we had a book called Epidemics through time and it had different things that happened in the past. We had to have 14 topics in total so we could add things that are important to us and we had to add Covid - 19 into it.
This is my timeline.

Chromatography

Aim:
To separate the different pigments from using chromatography.

Method:
1. Draw a line across the paper in pencil, 5cm from the bottom.
2. Draw a coloured dot in the middle of the line.
3. Measure out 10mL of water and place in the test tube.
4. Place the filter paper in the test tube and fold over the side. Make sure the pencil line is not in the water.
5. Wait for 5 minuets and observe the results.

Equipment:
1. Felt tip pen
2. Filter paper strips
3. Test tubes
4. Measuring cylinder
5. Pencil

Results:
I choose green and it stretched out and half of it was blue and the other half was yellow. So my one showed 3 pigments.

For the second one we had to do a black dot. It had 5 pigments. Blue, Purple, Black, Orange and a little bit of Pink.

As I was watching the colours change it was changing because the water was making it change. The darker the colour is the more pigments it will have.

Evaporation

Aim: Is to use evaporation to
Hypothesis: The Copper sulfate will turn into crystals.

Equipment:

  • Copper sulfate
  • solution
  • 250mL Beaker
  • Heat proof mat
  • evaporating basin
  • element

Method:
  1. Set up element
  2. Add 50mL of hot water to the beaker and place on the element.
  3. Add copper sulfate to the evaporating basin until it is quarter full.
  4. Carefully, place the the evaporating basin on top of the beaker.
  5. Turn on the element to 8
  6. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated and crystals of solute are forming.
  7. Turn off the element- careful not to touch as will be hot for a long time.

Observations: The water looks like it is evaporating.
