Advertisement Wizard - wand

In Kete we have been learning about business and inter-prize. For this Kete we had to make our own advertisement. Our teacher Miss Allan picked random topics for us. My friend and I had to make an advertisement about a wizard wand. Here is our product.

Equipment in science!

Today I am going to show you all the science equipment. This is like a quiz of how well I know the science equipment.

Beaker

A beaker is used for holding a liquid

Measuring Cylinder

A measuring cylinder is used to measure volumes of liquids.

Test Tube Tongs

Test tube tongs are used to hold test tubes.

Spatula

A spatula is used for scooping powders.

Stirring Rod

A stirring rod is used for stirring chemicals.

Dimple Tray (Spotting Tile)

A dimple tray is used for watching (observing) chemicals change.

Conical Flask

A conical flask is used for mixing liquids.

Thermometer

A thermometer is used for measuring the temperature of a liquid.

Tripod

A tripod is used for holding a beaker/flask above a flame.

Bunsen Burner

A Bunsen burner is used for heating experiments.

Scissor Tongs

Scissor Tongs are used for holding hot objects.

Gauze Mat

A gauze mat is used to evenly spread a flame under a beaker

Heat Mat

A heat mat protects the bench from burning

Make a paper clip float

Does a paper clip float or not?.

The things you will need is:

clean dry paper clips
tissue paper
a bowl of water ( We used beakers )
pencil with eraser

What we need to do is:

 Fill the bowl with water to try to make the paper clip float

Tear a piece of tissue paper about half the size of a dollar bill

Gently drop the tissue flat onto the surface of the water

Gently place a dry paper clip flat onto the tissue (try not to touch the water or the tissue)

Use the eraser at the end of the pencil to carefully poke the tissue (not the paper clip) until the tissue sinks. The tissue will sink and leave the paper clip floating!

It works with a little something scientist call Surface tension. Surface tension basically means there is a sort of skin on the surface of the water. Where the water molecules hold tight together. If the conditions are tight then it will be strong enough to hold the paper clip. The paper clip is not actually floating by it self it is being held up by the surface tension. Many insects such as water strider use this skin to walk across streams. 

I think mine will float because it seems easy enough when I saw my classes paper clips float.

My experiment was unsuccessful. 

I saw every ones else paper clip and it was floating so I thought mine was going to float.

Blobs in a bottle

Today in science Addyson, Anneleise and I made Lava Lamps. 

It was really fun making this lava lamp and it worked pretty well.

Our ingredients are 3/4 cup of water, Vegetable oil, Quick Eze tablets and food coloring.

Our lava Lamp didn't work as well as we thought it would be it was still a success. 

The Oil is lighter than the water so when we put food coloring in it goes straight to the water and colors it. the quick eze desolves and makes bubbles which creates the lava affect. 

Taha hinengaro

Sup people,

Today me and my BFF Anneleise is going to show you our taha hine ngaro DLO. Taha hine ngaro means mental / emotional.

Our Hui

Hey guys/girls,
Today I'm going to tell you about 7Als learning Hui. For people who don't know what Hui means it means assembly. Okay anyways for our Hui I was the M.C basically the host. My heart was pounding with nervousness and I was also the narrator for "Chicken little" readers theatre. There were some technical difficulty's with the sound but we managed to get through it.

My sister came to watch me and it was embarrassing because she was filming me. I did mess up a few times because I was so nervous but It was fine. :D

The performers in my class were Levi, Callum, Tyler, Skyler, Rieya, Matua, Blake, Keghan, Megan, Axle, Tehya and me.

How to make Sherbet

Sherbet recipe


1tsp of powdered drink crystals (eg refresh)
1/4 tsp citric acid
1/4 tsp tartaric acid
1/4 tsp -baking soda.

Put all ingredients into a zip lock bag, stir with a wooden stick and enjoy.

Evaluate:

Describe effect in mouth / tongue:
Fizzy, sweet, sour
Caused by acids and sugar

Taste: sweet, sour, 
Caused by tartaric acid, citric acid, icing sugar

Acidity / sweetness: my Sherbet taste sweet on the front and back of my tongue
