For cyber smart we had to pick a country that we want to go to. I picked Australia, I actually have been to Australia and I would love to go again.

We have some questions to answer about the country we want to go to.

The Capital of Australia is Canberra.

In 2011 the population of Canberra was 403,468 but now it has dropped to about 390,000

January is the hottest month in Canberra.

 It has a average of temperature of 69°F (21°C) The coldest month is in July 42°F (6°C)

Canberra is located at the northern Australia capital.

Canberra people don't speak a different language they just speak English.

So me and my Family just got to Australia and we went to sleep then we woke up and wanted something to eat.

Normally in Australia they have Cereal, Toast or a Coffee, or is they want something hot they would have Bacon, Eggs, Sausages and Fried Tomato.

In stead of Waitangi day Australia has Australia day which is 26 of January.

Then we had to go back home to NZ.

Unicorn vs Men

Over the last few weeks we have written a piece of narrative writing. I am going to share with you my piece of writing.

Unicorns Vs Men:

One warm sunny day a herd of Unicorns were discovered by a group of men. Their names were Alexander, Jack, Brad and Derek. 1827 is the date the Unicorns were discovered. Alexander, Jack, Brad and Derek discovered the Unicorns in the middle of South West Rain Forest. They then took the Unicorns they discovered back to their campground that they were staying at.

They then began to find out more information about them. They found out their names, which is Vivion, Penelope, Mia and Livie. They instantly knew that they were going to adopt the Unicorns. They were thinking about it and made their decision.

So Brad and Derek made their own cabin in the woods. While Alexander and Jack went back to their house in Transylvania and gathered all their stuff and went back to their modern wood cabin. Their cabin looked like it was professionally made, It was amazing.

They then decided to sort out everything tomorrow so they could have some food. Lucky Alexander and Jack got all the food so they could cook up some meals. They went upstairs to cook some mac and cheese and cheese pizza, It was delicious.

The next day…

So the men started to wake up, they didn’t realize where their Unicorns were. Derek had gotten up and gone outside to see if there was any sign of them. Derek went so far down the path he couldn’t see the cabin, all he could see was the fog going further and further. The pathway had ended and there was still no sign of the Unicorns. Derek went further and further, there was no ground left to walk on. Derek was thinking they couldn’t have gone this far. So Derek just went back to the cabin.

He informed his brothers that he did not know where they were. “ I went so far down the path still no sign of them,” Derek said. Everybody Instantly went looking for them. They looked everywhere, Inside and out. Still no sign of them. Little did they know the Unicorns actually made their own cabin with their magical corn powers.

Vivion, Penelope, Mia and Livie made like one of the best cabins that could ever be seen in the Rainforest. It had Blue, Purple and Pink wood. It had these amazing LED lights that were engraved into the wood. They Unicorns went back to the original cabin and they started up a huge fight with the men. The Unicorns started to use their magical corn powers to struct them down to the ground. The men couldn’t get up again they tried so had to fight back but nothing, they couldn’t do anything. The Unicorns just left to go back to their own cabin and just left the men there lying on the ground.

5 Weeks later….

Alexander, Jack, Brad and Derek finally reached out to some people and got the help they needed. Then they finally recovered and left the Rain Forest to go back to their original home in Transylvania. The Unicorns took over the Rain Forest and made it their own place for magical creatures. They made some new friends like Kermit the Frog, Gary the fast snail, Fantastico the Peanut, Tissue the ghost and Plankton the Green leaf. They all had heaps of fun being around each other and never saw sight of a human ever again. They lived their own lives in the South West Rain forest.

Summer Learning Journey

Curious Kiwi forgot to take his book on the over seas trip he went on. So we have to figure out how to entertain him. So I am going to explain a little bit about the book I am reading. The book I'm reading is Once upon a dork.

                             

This book Is amazing I love it, even though I haven't read all of it yet it is still the best book I have ever read. It does have its ups and downs but its a great book I really recommend it.

The one little part in the book I don't really like is the part where they don't tell us that Nikki has the Peanut Butter Jelly and Pickle sandwich that her little sister (Brianna) accused her of stealing, but then it was really funny. 

The characters in this book is Nikki, Brianna, Chloe, Zoey, Brandon and Mackenzie. 

Nikki and Brianna are sister's and they absolutely hate each other.

Nikki, Chloe and Zoey are besties, they tell each other everything.

Nikki has a crush on Brandon but Mackenzie also likes Brandon, But Mackenzie is a bully to Nikki and she makes Nikki's life miserable so does her sister Brianna. 

One of my favorite parts about the book is when Nikki and the Gym class go to play Dodge ball and Nikki gets knocked out With a ball then she wakes up and everyone is staring at her and she Imagines that they have cotton candy and lollies all over them I think its really funny.

Cybersmart

Term 1 in cyber smart we were learning about smart learning.

Lesson 1 was about how we could use our smarts to protect our Chromebook. Lesson 2 was how do you create a unique and strong password for your google account. Lesson 3 was which shortcuts was most effected and how do you know? Lesson 4 was about who own the images online. Lesson 4 (part 2) what is the best way to increase my efficiency. lesson 5 private vs public information. lesson 6 right place right time how hard could it be. Lesson 7 what can you remember about what we have learnt. Lesson 8 coding 101 hands on no devices. Thats was just term 1. 

In term 2 we were learning about our smart footprint. Lesson 1 was how can you find out information about someone else. Lesson 2 was private information. Lesson 3 want to grow your audience. Lesson 4 who is social media for and why? Lesson 5 steps to create a quality blog post. Lesson 6 what is the purpose of a blog. 

Term 3 we learnt about our smart relationships. Lesson 1 blog comment sentence starters. Lesson 2 we are learning to reply to blog comments. Lesson 3 tips on how to be positive, power of words, dealing with haters and trolls and color your world with kindness. 

Term 4 we are being smart users. For the first few weeks we done the research challenge. Then we moved on to scratch coding and thats was a game of drawing and coding. For the last few weeks we have learnt about the summer learning journey.

My favorite part about cyber smart was learning all the different things about being stuff online.

Purple Cabbage

Today in science we are doing a purple cabbage experiment.

I was working with my friend Addyson

here is our document we had to fill out and it will tell you a little bit of information.

What colour do you think the white vinegar will turn the purple cabbage indicator? Light purple pink
color

Why do you think this? Because the vinegar is strong and it might get rid of some of the color.
Depends on how long the cabbage is in vinegar for.

What colour do you think the washing powder will turn the purple cabbage indicator? Dark blue

Why do you think this? Because it's not as strong as the vinegar so it might make it darker.

Method:

1 Peel off three or four big cabbage leaves and put them in a blender filled half full with water.
Blend the mixture on high until you have purple cabbage juice.

2 Pour the purplish cabbage liquid through a strainer to filter out all of the big chunks of cabbage.
Save the liquid for the experiments to follow.

3 Set out three beakers, side by side. Fill each glass three-quarters full with cabbage juice.

4 Add a little vinegar to the first beaker of cabbage juice. Stir with stirring rod and watch the colour
change.

5 In the second beaker, add a little laundry detergent and stir.

6 Take a photo of your 3 beakers side by side.

The one with vinegar turned light purple and the one with washing powder turned blue.

Science Roadshow

Today in the learning street we had a Science Roadshow. It was really fun and we got to do some experimenting. The first show we saw was the the fire and ice show. It started off to be about fire and ice, then we went to temperature and there was a metal hoop and it could fit a ball through it, then when you put it in liquid nitrogen the ball could not fit anymore. The reason is because when the metal is cold the metal got smaller because of it molecules and when it gets warmer it gets bigger because the molecules spreading out. Then we went on with experimenting.  

The people who were in charge of the Roadshow was Shane, Samantha and Dave they were the ones who done the experiments. here are some more photos :D

It was really fun doing the experiments I really enjoyed it :D

My name is Hope.

If I won a prize at the summer learning journey I would want to win Blue tooth speaker.

I am 11 :( nearly 12 :) I am part Maori because my Dad is Half Maori. I have 6 brothers and 4 sisters. I grew up with a lot of boys so I'm not very lady like. :D I have 4 Nephews and 1 niece :( 

Yeah my family if pretty big :) Thats good thought I get more presents for Christmas!!

My friends think I am really weird and quirky but I think I'm just not normal :)

Passion project - Musical Theatre

For my Passion projects I have picked Musical Theatre. This year we are doing the musical called Bugsy Malone 

I Auditions for Blousey, but I didn't get that part so I am now going to be Roxy Robinson. 

There is a audition part in this musical and I might be a dancing Unicorn. 

The Musical characters are, Bugsy, Blousey, Fat Sam + his gang, Bronx Charlie, Roxy Robinson (Roxy the Weasel) Pop Becker, Fizzy, Paper boy, Radio Announcer, Louis (Fat Sams gang), Snake Eyes (Fat Sams gang), Waiter, English Reporter, Louella, Dandy Dan, Doodle, Tillie, Loretta, Dotty, Tallulah, Lena, Seymour Scoop (Cop), Smolsky (Cop), Knuckels (Fat Sams gang), Shady, Leroy, Cagey Joe, Bangles and Baby-face. 

As you are all probaley thinking there are some weird names in this musical, but if you watch the whole thing it will make sense.

My Character is Roxy Robinson. In the first five minutes I get hit with a splurge gun and then I die.

Amphibious bicycle

Today in cyber smart we had to find out what the 1932 amphibious invention was, useing the search filters under your search bar. So me and my friend found out that it was a Amphibious Bicycle.  

We had to try and find out what the invention was created as a walking machine in 1932 to become a amphibious, and then to find out what the invention is? The invention was a Amphibious Bicycle.

I worked with my friend Anneleise and we got all of the questions RIGHT!

I learnt heaps about the pH scale because I didn't know much about it.

Google Search page

In Cyber smart we are learning to use the filters bar on google search. 

The filters are there to help you find more information about what your searching. We used Austin Post as a example. 

Bonus question: How did Austin choose the name Post Malone? Answer: According to Post, he chose Post Malone as his stage name when he was 14 or 15. The name was rumored to be a reference to the professional basketball player Karl Malone, but Post later explained that while 'Post' is his last name, he used a "rap name generator" to get "Malone".

When you search things up on google it has this spider web, that takes you to all these different sites and picks them for you. 

Fish in a tree

Through out this year our class has been reading a book called fish in a tree. It is about a young girl called Ally Nickerson. Ally Nickerson didn't realize that she actually had dyslexia. 

At the beginning of the book Ally had no friends and she thought she was dumb, because she didn't know she had dyslexia. Ally actually got bullied by these 2 girls named Shay and Jessica. Later in the book she got closer to some people Albert and Keisha they ended up being really good friends. 

The author of the book is Lynda Mullaly Hunt.

In the story there was a lot of drama between Shay, Jessica and Ally. More later in the book Jessica was surprisingly nicer to Ally. 

This book was actually really interesting and I would love to watch a movie if there is one.

Alchemy - Science

Today in science we studied alchemy. The aim was to try and turn a copper coin into gold. The equipment we needed was: 

• Copper coin
• Bunsen burner
• Tripod
• Heat mat
• Gauze mat
• 50ml beaker
• Scissor tongs
• Zinc metal
• Zinc Nitrate solution

Orana park

Yesterday the year 7s went to Orana Park. The animals we saw were Kiwi, Kea, Spider monkeys,
Tigers, Lions,
Tasmanian Devil, Gorillas, Orangutans, Rhino, Giraffes, Zebra, Buffalo and Cheetah.

My favourite animal was the Zebra. Do you know if Zebras are black with white stripes or white
with black stripes?

Did you know that Orangutans wear sacks to protect them from the sun or rain?

Did you know that big cats don’t purr? You know normal cats purr but big cats don’t.
Cheetahs on the other hand they are the only big cat that purr.

If you go to Orana Park check out the emu, you can hear them talk. Their talking sounds like drums.
Straight drums.

Spider monkeys use their tails like a 3rd limb. They use their tail as support to keep
-their balance when they are swinging on their rope.

Tasmanian Devils have sharp teeth. They may look cute but they're actually endangered because they
have a face trauma and if they bite each other it will spread.
Tasmanian devils carry their babies in pouches.

Did you know Kea are really smart but also really naughty. Chocolate is toxic to them as well.

Kiwis need strong legs so they can kick they predators. They don’t have hollow legs like normal birds do.
Kiwis can’t fly because of their wings that aren't structured fully.

Did you know that a rhinos horns are made out of the same stuff as your Finger/toe nails and your hair?
This is known as keritan.

Giraffes tongues were actually pink but they turned purple to protect it from getting sunburnt in the hot
weather where they're from (South Africa). Giraffes can also kick in every direction.

Kiwis hold their eggs inside them for about 28 days and when their little baby is 6 weeks
old they go and live by themselves.

The oldest ape is the big brother boss, you must give him everything he wants.
The big brother is a silver back but the other 2 apes are younger.

Did you know that you can hear a lions roar from 5 miles away?

Our leader was Elaine she was really nice. We all had fun at Orana park.
We even got to hold a Rhinos horn.

Growth mindset vs Fixed Mindset

Today in Philosophy we were learning about growth mindset and fixed mindset. 

Growth mindset is when you have good thoughts about your work and your self. You achieve you goal and you don't down raise your bar. 

Fixed mindset is when you have bad thoughts about your learning and you don't achieve you goal. You don't finish it in time and your not focused. 

I am working with my friends Addyson and Anneleise.

Even though it is just a picture it does explain a lot.

For me it was a challenge because I have just learnt about growth mindset and fixed mindset today.

Ice expeirement

Today in science we had to make ice stick to a match. At first I thought it was impossible then me and my buddy's Anneleise and Ranit did it, it was so cool.

You have to put the match stick on top of the ice and then sprinkle salt on top and wait for 30 seconds and then the match stick will stick to the ice. 

The ice also brings down the level so the water freezes, so the ice can melt faster. 

This lets go of all the frozen energy when there is warm heat around it, so it all gets colder including the ice.

The ice cube freezes so it freezes the match stick to the ice.

The challenge to me was dropping the match stick on to the ice because it wouldn't stick straight away, it also kept slipping out of place.

This experiment was awesome. I didn't believe this will work, but it did.

Why do we sprinkle salt on icy roads?

To make the ice dissolve quicker so that cars don't slide on the ice.

Elephants Toothpaste

Do Elephants use this to brush their teeth?.

Today in science me and my buddy Vann made some elephant toothpaste.
The ingredients for elephant toothpaste is
:hydrogen peroxide.
:dish washing liquid.
:and mixing dry yeast with water.

The colour was a light green type of colour, and the smell was DISGUSTING!!! It sort of smelt like rotten eggs and vinegar.

The yeast had a reaction with the other chemicals and that made the elephant toothpaste go POOF.
