Solar System

 Solar System



Aim:

To make a realistic solar system.


Research:

The solar system is what makes our world go round. It consists of earth and many other planets. The sun is actually a star and we orbit around it. The solar system is the gravitational bound system of the sun and the objects that orbit it. Either directly or indirectly. Of the objects that orbit the sun directly, the largest are the eight planets with the remainder being smaller objects. 



Equipment: 

Cardboard

Ping pong balls 

Paper Mache


Method:

  • Use cardboard as a structure.

  • Paint background black with stars.

  • Make the planets using ping pong balls, balloons and paper mache. 

  • Paint them. 

  • Hang them up on the structure using string.

Volcanoes

 Mt Tambora Volcano. 




Aim:
- To create an erupting Volcano. 

Equipment:


  • Newspaper 

  • Glue 

  • Bottle

  • Cardboard 

  • Paint - brown, red, green, orange

  • Elephant toothpaste chemicals 

  • Paint brush

  • Tray/container 

  • Red Food coloring 


Method:


  • Get all equipment prepared. 

  • Use a bottle as the structure for the volcano. 

  • Paper mache the outside for a more realistic design, make sure to leave out the opening of the bottle. (This will be opening of the volcano)

  • Use a newspaper for rocks, by scrunching them into balls.

  • Paint over the paper mache and rocks to add colour to your designs, create more definitions and details using the paint. Such as lava leaking out and so on.

  • Set up the elephant toothpaste inside the bottle. 



Research:


Mount Tambora, also known as Mount Tambora, is a volcanic mountain located on the Northern coast of Sumbawa Island, Indonesia. 


Mount Tambora has been recorded as the largest volcanic eruption in our history which killed tens of thousands of people. This catastrophic eruption took place in 1815 on April 5, this is when people first started to notice. Tremors and pyroclastic flow became more obvious 5 days later a humongous blast blew apart the mountain. Earthquakes due to tectonic plates created many catastrophic events for the people. As this volcano is located on an island, tsunami's were also added to the blast and the pyroclastic flows. As all these natural disasters followed each other, it killed at least 10,000 islanders. Following that, the precious homes of 35,000 more, the death toll is more than 71,00 so it's known as the deadliest volcano.


Volcanoes form when one tectonic plate moves under another. Usually a thin, heavy oceanic plate sub ducts, or moves under a thicker continental plate. When enough magma builds up in the magma chamber it forces its way up to the surface and that how it erupts.


This Volcano definitely worked and it had a pretty good explosion. If I did this again I would chose a different volcano, and do something with more detail.

Solar and Lunar eclipse

 Solar Eclipse:

How do they occur? Solar eclipse occur during the day when the sun disappears and its like night time during the day. This happens when the moon blocks the sun during the day. 

What do we see? Once the sun is completed we just see the shadow of the moon. 

When was the last one? 1965

When is the next one? 2028

Lunar Eclipse: 

How do they occur? 

Lunar eclipse occurs at night, because the sun will reflect of the moon and its like the sun is out at night time. 

What do we see?

It looks like some of the moon is missing. 

When was the last one?

I was motivated by my friends because they know my skills and how far I can go with them. They motivated me to try new skills and that I could get better at them. I was always organised with my PE gear and if I didn’t have it I would explain why.

While doing gymnastics I was interested in what I could do. I tried doing heaps of activities and seeing what I could do. In my opinion I did really well at floor, trampoline and I achieved the said activities for the Mini tramp.

Music Reflection.

 

  1. I enjoyed playing the piano and learning new skills, I felt that I have learnt a lot from it. 

  2. I learnt new songs and what the notes are in piano.

  3. Yes I performed to Mrs Beer. I performed a piano piece that I was learning and it was called Hear and Soul.

  4. Next year I want to continue with piano.

Ecosystem project

 How does a turtle show MRS GREN?

Movement:

Sea turtles have flippers instead of feet. That allows them to move quickly through the water. Terrestrial turtles have a streamlined shape of their shell and they cant pull their head and legs into their shell. 

Reproduction:

Sea turtles tend to lay their eggs into a nest that is dug into the sand. Terrestrial turtles live and mate on land, they use their hind legs to dig a nest and when the female turtles is ready she can deposit the eggs. The bigger the turtle that bigger the egg and the more they will have. 

Sensitivity:

Turtles can feel pressure and pain through their shells, as humans can feel pressure though fingernails. Turtles do not have ears like ours but they can feel vibrations and changes in water pressure, that tell's them where there is food and or a predator

Growth: Between the ages of 5 and 10 the turtles tend to grow at a rate of 8mm per year. From the age 10 - 15 they grow at 2.5mm per year. Hatch lings have a carapace length of about 1.5 cm. You should expect the turtle to grow steadily over the next 5 years. 

Respiration:

Technically the term respiration, not so much breating as just diffusing oxygen in and carbon dioxide out, but the fact remains when turtles hibernate their main source of oxygen is form their butt. 

Excretion:

Most land based vertebrates produce urine to get rid of water soluble toxic waste. Some researchers found that the Chinese soft-shelled turtles get rid of 6 percent of their urea through the kidneys. They also discovered a high concentration of urea in the turtles saliva. 

Nutrition:

Is it also a source of several micronutrients and it includes.

Some times turtles are lacking when it comes to 

Essential Omega-3 fatty acids,

Vitamins A and C

Fibre. 


Adult sea turtles have a few predators mostly large sharks and Tiger sharks. One thing that is known for eating sea turtles are Killer whales. 

Polar Bear: 

Their adaptations include 

A white appearance - for camouflage from prey on the snow/ice. 

Thick layers of fat and fur - for insulation against the cold. 

A small surface area to volume ratio - To minimise heat loss. 


Adult polar bears have no natural predators except for other polar bears. Cubs that are younger than 1 years old sometimes are prey to wolves and other carnivores. Newborn cubs may be cannibalized by malnourished mothers and adult male polar bears.

Keyboard Reflection

 1. What have you learnt on the keyboard/piano?

- I've learnt how to play some songs and what the notes mean. Also I've learnt how to read the notes and know how to play it. 

2. What did you find challenging about learning the keyboard/piano?

- It took me a while to get some songs but its all about the coordination.

3. What have you enjoyed about this instrument?

- I really enjoy learning piano because its fun and its a good way to enjoy music. 

4. What instrument would you like to learn next and way?

I wouldn't mind playing Guitar because I used to be really interested in guitars and how they play.
