Creative writing!

The mountains look beautiful under the sky. All I see is the ocean in the distance. On the mountain there are trees, in the water there are boats coming back to shore. I was feeling the hot summer sun on my back as I tanned.

I'm Lydia and I live in a house with my best friend Allison. we have a cat called Carrot, we call her that because she is orange and we dyed her fur green for Christmas. We live really close to the shore and every night we go to sleep while listening to the waves crash. Last night we heard foot steps coming from the padeo and it sounded like someone was breaking in.

Allison and I were pretty frightened so we went down stairs to see what is happening, but before we reached the end off the stairs we see a tall man dressed in black trying to break in to our house. Allison runs up the stairs to call the police and I figure out a way to defend myself. Allison runs back and says the police are about 5 minutes away. As she was saying that the tall man dressed in black opens the door and invites himself into our house.

As he walked in our house the police show up. The tall man in black heard the sirens and tried to run out the door he came from, the police caught him and arrested him. They started questioning him and asked why he was trying to break in. He was not responding so the police took him to the station and we could happily go to sleep.

Have a good day! :)

I want a dance subject at HHS!

Today we have to write about what subject we want at our school, I'm choosing dance. I love to dance and school would be so much funner for me if dance was apart of school.

The reason why I want dance in HHS is because I am a dancer myself and I am really committed to my dancing. I dance all the time at home and at school in my own time.

I could get a lot more opportunities to have more dance performances, I would be able to perform more and I think I would be more confident in myself while performing.

I can dance more often and I would love to get the chance to do that!

Dream Holiday!

Today we are blogging about where we want to go for our dream holiday. I really want to go Bora Bora because it is such a beautiful place. Bora Bora in a small South Pacific Island Northwest of Tahiti in French Polynesia. Bora Bora is surrounded by Sand Fringed motus and Turquoise lagoon protected by coral reef. Bora Bora is known for their scuba diving. It's also a popular luxury resort destination where some guest bungalows are perched over the water on stilts.

Otemanu is a mountain in Bora Bora. It is one of the two peaks of an extinct volcano located in the centre of the Island. One peak of the mountain is called Mount Otemanu and the other is call Mount Pahaia. This is the only Island that is a perfect score of a ten on the amazement scale by tourists.

Bloody Mary's is one of the Pier's in Bora Bora. It is also a Club Yacht, Restaurant and etc. It's not only a Restaurant though it can be toured by tourist. You can experience walking on sand floors, sitting on coconut stools under a thatched roof and you are surrounded by exotic plants.

Dance

Dance is my favourite sport, I do Jazz, Contemporary and Hip Hop. About a month ago I had my exams. Exams is where you learn heaps of syllabus work. Syllabus work is heaps of short dances and partner work. This year we had a really tough examiner, she was looking for everything we missed, all the technique we added and stuff like that. I had 3 exams and I got top marks for my Hip Hop and I am really proud of myself. I got 3rd marks for Jazz and 2nd for Contemporary.

After we had our exams we move on to show work. At the end of every year we have a show at the Middleton Grange Theatre. There is heaps of dances we need to learn and I am in the middle of learning 4 dances. The names of those dances are Western, Plain Bellied, Hooded and Hip Hip VS Classical. For the Hip Hip VS Classical I am in the Hip Hop part because I'm not a Classical person. Western and Plain Bellied is more of a Hip Hop Jazz type dance and they are really fun dances to be in. Hooded is a Hip Hop dance and for me so is Hip Hip VS Classical.

I love to even watch dance I watch it all the time. I really enjoy watching Dance Moms when I'm not dancing around the house at home, but sometimes I will watch any dance video I see.

My favourite part of Orana park was lunch, my favourite animals was basically all of them because I kept saying they were cute. We were spilt into 4 groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 our leader's name was Elizabeth. We got to feed the Giraffes which was really cool.

After we went into the kiwi encloser we had a we talk about Ferrets and Rats and animals kind of like that. They had stuffed Ferret's and a stuffed Rat and we got to touch them they actually felt so real!

When we went to go see the Kea's there were 2 of them Arthur and Teike. At first Arthur was jumping on some people and then Teike jumped on and pushed Arthur off.

We got to look at the lions and they were HUGE but they were still cute.

We saw a Lemur and it WAS ADORABLE!

We saw a Rhino/Fat Unicorn

Orana Park was really fun and I love the animals if you ever want to go there this is the address:

Ki o Rahi - P.E Hurumanu

In P.E we have been learning a game called Ki o Rahi. We had to research the legend bout Ki o Rahi and this is my research.
When you’re playing Ki O Rahi there will be a set time to play in, it will be 4 quarters or 2 halves. Teams will switch roles of Kīoma and Taniwha at half time or in each quarter. Both teams score differently Kīoma scores by touching the Pou With the Kī then they run the Kī through to Te Roto and placing it down in Pāwero/Te Moto. This means they will get points after touching the pou. If the Kī goes out any team can pick it up. Teams can decide to change the rules before playing the game, normally they will just keep playing as if it was Tatu. The Taniwha team scores one point for hitting the tupu which is in the middle of the field. There a several circles which makes the Ki o Rahi field and they have specific names. The outer ring of a Ki o Rahi field is called Te Ao, the next ring in is called Te Roto, The next one is Pāwero/Te Motu. There is a little circle around the Tupu is called Te wairua.
This is what the field looks like:
The equipment you will need is Kī (ball) Pou (pole/post) Tupu (Barrel) bibs, cones to make the outlines, you can also use spray paint to make outlines.

The legend:
One day an enemy tribe from a far off mountains kidnapped Te Ara. Her Abductors casted a spell on her causing the vegetation to become really dense and impenetrable so nobody could track where she was. Rahi was very determined to find Ti Ara, with the help of his family and tribe he built a huge kite and called it Manu Tangata. Before going on his journey Rahi prepared several “Kī” (Flax Bags) he then filled it up with a large Moa (Extinct New Zealand Bird) eggs so he can eat something during his journey. Tawhirimatea the god of wind blew Rahi and his Kite high up in the sky, before he gently landed Rahi in the bush. When Ti Ara was being taken away through the forest she secretly folded back leaves of the silver fern. Which was exposing the silvery underside of the leaf so Rahi was able to follow the silvery trail that Ti Ara had left.

CIP (Tane Mahuta)

Today in CIP we were doing more gardening. First period we had our year 7/8 Hui then afterwards I had to go to Kapa Haka. When I was gardening I was picking out the weeds. While some people were picking out the weeds some other people were raking over it to make it more tidier to plant in.

In period 2 when I was in Kapa Haka we were in groups the groups were Leads, boys harmonise and girls harmonise. I was in the lead group, the lead group is basically carrying the whole Kapa Haka group. The boy harmonisers go more deep and the girls harmonisers go really high so the song sounds better. The song we are doing is Whakarongo and today we also cleared up the actions. We haven't quite perfected the actions yet but they are more clearer than they were before.

Ella West visit

Yesterday we had a visit from Ella West, the author of 'Night Vision' and 'Rain Fall'. She was kind enough to come and visit us while she came up from Dunedin for some family related stuff. Ella is also a journalist, and she write magazines and she works for southland times farming magazines.
Ella West is actually her pen name, a pen name is basically a fake name but her real name is Karen Trebilcock.

Ella basically lives 2 lives because her family and journalist life is one then she has her author life which completely different even her name.

Ella got inspired to write 'Night Vision' from watching a documentary about XP (Xeroderma Pigmentosum) and it is a real life condition.

She based this story in Ashburton because at the time she was writing 'Night Vision' thats when we had the huge Earthquakes so that would take over the story from the murder so she had to base in in Ashburton.

Night Vision is actually re written in Italian and has a completely different cover and everything.
Steven King actually stole the Idea of putting money in a bag and giving it to someone from 'Night Vision'.

She got inspired to write 'Rain Fall' from the West Coast because it is 90% rain and 10% sun. There is a road on the West Coast and its called Utopia Rd and got inspired from it.

Did you know that Ella is writing a book currently and its called 'The sound of my heart' and its basically about someone that runs but never can come first in races and she can hear the sound of her own heart beat.

Its a bit unfair on Ella because she can never get in the top 10 of New Zealand book authors but she lives and writes then in NZ but they get published in Australia.

When Ella is writing a book she tries to aim for 1000 words a day and she writes about 50,000 words in every book.

The first books that she ever wrote were the thieves series, there are 3 of them as well.

When Ella writes her book's she doesn't actually need to write them when its completely quite she can write her books where ever no matter how noisy it is.

Fun fact Ella's First book wasn't actually published.

Trash

For a while our teacher Mrs Allan Fletcher has been reading a book to us called Trash and the Author is Andy Mulligan. The story is about the 3 main characters Rat, Gardo and Raphael. They live on Smokey Mountain which is based in Behala Philippines, Smokey Mountain is a dump site in Behala and they call it Smokey Mountain because there is always smoke coming from the trash that is around.

The 3 main characters (Rat, Gardo and Raphael) will always work really hard on this Island. They were cracking codes and solving mysteries and they were living a hard life. Through out there journey they meet some good people and some bad people but they accomplished there goal.

This is a video of what Smokey mountain is about.

The journey is a little bit about finding money and someone stole it and stuff relating to that.
They found the money and didn't know what to do with it, so that is when the journey started.
I'm not going to say to much about the book because that is for you to find out.
I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in it, or is just interested in a type of book that is kind of about the rich and poor life.
